Global consumer demand has pushed electronics companies to explore the development of more cost-effective and simpler home technology solutions such as Digital Homes.

According to Dr. H. G. Lee, President and Chief Technology Officer of LG Electronics, the company has forecast a continued growth for its HomNet segment, strengthened by an encouraging global consumer demand for smart home solutions.

HomNet or Home Network is an intelligent home appliances networking system that connects all home appliances – wired or wireless – enabling access and exchange of information via the Internet and home server. Various home appliances seamlessly communicate with each other through the network, allowing the consumer to remotely take control via the Internet and mobile devices from outside.

“Digital lifestyle is fast becoming a reality for many people around the globe, thanks to recent advances in this field,” explained Lee, who visited the UAE today.

Speaking at a press conference in Dubai, Lee pointed out that LG’s own innovations in the home technology segment have significantly improved the lifestyles of its consumers by revolutionising the way they listen to music, play games, watch TV or manage chores around the house.

“Companies such as LG Electronics have taken rapid strides in introducing next-generation technology systems that can provide people with more engaging and convenient lifestyle experiences,” he said. “In the years to come, our continued innovation and an unprecedented market demand will see LG demonstrating its proven capabilities in this niche sector.”

LG has invested US$100 million on HomNet’s R&D facility, and has contracted more than 50,000 homes globally.

Launched in 2004, HomNet sees the synergies of all four LG frontline operations – Mobile Communications, Digital Display, Digital Appliances and Digital Media. By integrating world-class solutions from the four companies, LG has underlined its commitment to provide consumers with a complete “Connected Life” experience.

LG has developed cutting-edge home network technology for the transmission of information through digital TV, software and networks for greater consumer convenience.

The company is now driving the development of diverse web-based digital home appliances and multimedia devices for additional Internet and networking services.

LG has already introduced internet refrigerators allowing users to shop online, make video phone calls, and watch TV broadcasts as well as DVDs. Moreover, the Internet washing machine can download pre-programmed washing schemes for different laundry loads. The company has also completed the development of Internet-accessible air conditioners and microwave ovens.
